Key points

mIRC is a historically significant commercial IRC client that runs exclusively on Windows.

Be aware that mIRC is not considered a core client by Squick staff, and limited technical support is available from us if something goes wrong with it. The instructions here are provided as a best-effort courtesy. We recommend that you request support from the developer or mIRC forums if you get stuck past here.

You have several other options available if you would prefer a free core client:

How do I connect to Squick with it?

To connect one time, use this command: /server squick.me:+6697

To create and use a persistent configuration:

  1. Open the Options dialog.
  2. In the left pane of the Options dialog, expand Connect and click Servers.
  3. Click the Add button in the right pane.
  4. In the Add Server dialog that appears, fill in the first four fields with Squick, squick.me, +6697, and Squick. Leave the password and login method fields alone for now. Press the Add button to save your setup.
  5. Click the Squick server you just created. Press the Select button.
  6. Press the Connect button to connect to Squick. You may also connect via File -> Connect in the menubar.

Note: Depending on your version of mIRC, you may also be able to open the server list (steps 1-2) by navigating to File -> Select Server in the main menu.

How do I log into my Squick account with it?

mIRC versions 7.47 and earlier do not support SASL and cannot log into Squick. If you do not see these options necessary to complete this guide, upgrade mIRC.

  1. Open the server list per steps 1-2 of the guide above.
  2. Click Edit after selecting the Squick server you created earlier.
  3. Change Login Method to SASL (/CAP)
  4. In the second Password box (yes, there are two of them now), enter your username and password, separated by a colon. Example: fezi:pickabetterpasswordthanthis1
  5. Click OK to save your changes. Reconnect to the server.
